This testimonial project was
commisssioned by Maurice Brines of North Carolina. He was building himself a
custom guitar made from a Warmoth body and neck. This is a carved top VW body
with a killer Koa wood top and a Koa wood neck with a rosewood finger board.
Maurice wanted to make a theme guitar. He presented me with several designs he
had found or customized himself. The head stock was left up to me to design.
Through many phone and email conversations we have jointly created the "Merlin"
guitar. At least that's what I call it. It finished the guitar
himself.
Here is what Maurice had to say: "For anyone
interested in getting inlay work done, it is one of the best things you can do
for enhancing the look of an item and increasing the item's worth, if done
properly. I did my homework and talked with many inlay artists and even visited
some of them to discuss my thoughts on getting some inlay work done on a new
guitar I'm building. Hands down, I made the right decision with Shark Inlay.
Working with Cliff Suttle was not
only a pleasure, but was fun. He has the ability to understand what you imagine
and bring it to life. Not only was his manner professional, but he performs his
work to the highest degree. He will customize any inlay from your discussion
with him or will work with your drawings and suggest enhancements that you may
not have even considered. Bottom line, Cliff is an exceptional inlay artist
with the talent for taking time to understand your needs and building on them.
He will walk you through his process and will not inlay anything until you are
satisfied with what the final inlay looks like. Cliff even takes the time to
send digital pictures to you prior to the inlay being completed. Cliff has an
exceptional talent and a superior personality to help you with the "dream"
inlay you've always wanted, but were afraid something would get messed up.
Don't worry with Shark Inlay, they are truly there for you ! Like many people,
I was very concerned with sending my guitar neck and body off to someone I
didn't know. Now, that I have it back, I'm very, very happy that I did !
